The Saint Richard Music Ministry encompasses all those who minister in the area of music at weekend liturgies, funerals, etc. We have opportunities for people to serve in Adult Choir, Youth Choir, the Young Ladies’ Ensemble, Cantors, and Youth Instrumentalists. These various groups help to provide music for any of our Masses. More detailed information about each group is below:
Adult Choir – practices weekly on Thursdays from 7-8:30 PM. The Adult Choir sings usually once a month but more during the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. We are always looking for more singers to join our group and the ability to read music is not necessary.
Cantors – these individuals, duos, or trios help to lead the song of the assembly during our parish liturgies. Cantors lead music on weeks where no choirs are singing and they rotate on a schedule usually singing once a month. We are looking for cantors to help lead music and they practice on Thursdays from 8:30-9PM.
Youth Choir – sings for the 5:30 Christmas Eve Mass and for Shadow Stations of the Cross. They also sing or have sung for special events such as “For the Love of Music” held yearly in February, or First Reconciliation and First Communion. Choir practices start up in November for Christmas and are held weekly on Thursday evenings from 6-7 PM. Children ages 5 and up are welcome to join Youth Choir.
Youth Instrumentalists – are welcome to join the “St Richard Orchestra” comprised mainly of woodwinds and strings. They usually play once a month and instrumentalists need to have been playing their instrument for at least one year.
Young Ladies’ Ensemble – a group that consists of high school and college age young ladies who also cantor once a month and sings at special liturgies such as First Communion or other special events.
